After being accused by the Spanish government of failing to pay €14 million in tax on income earned between 2012 and 2014, pop star Shakira has rejected a plea deal with Spanish authorities and is moving forward with a trial that she says will prove she has already paid the tax in question and owes no tax debt. For the tax years at issue, Shakira’s official residence was the Bahamas, but she also lived with footballer Gerard Pique in Barcelona. If found guilty, she could face fines and a prison term.
