Crypto scams have reached the $1 billion mark for the period between January 2021 and March 2022. Almost 40% of the scams originated on social media. In terms of type of fraud, most scams relate to fake investments that promise large returns, with second place going to “romance scams” that involve gaining trust using a fake online identity and then manipulating funds out of the victim.
